It was a crisp, clear day. About -10 C or 12 F, whichever scale you use. It was nice in the sun, with very little breeze. It doesn't take much to produce steam in those conditions! It is rising off their backs where they have sweated a bit, not from their breath. My own horses will have steam rising off them in the sunshine when a little bit of snow or frost warms up on their coats. They'll stand in the sunshine and doze for hours at a time. No mosquitoes to worry about at this time of year!
